A few months ago I was trying to think of a way I could re-imagine the characters from my favorite Nintendo series. The Bros Mario Noir is a series that takes the characters from the colorful world of Super Mario Bros and throws them into a dark, gritty world inspired by classic film noir movies.
“Thank you for the quote, I’ll keep it in mind and get back to you sometime when I’m able to commission you!”
“That’s a little out of my budget for the time being, but thank you for your time. I’ll contact you again if/when I am able to pay!”
“I appreciate the quote, but i’ve decided to wait on the commission, thank you!”
“I understand your prices and that they are fair, but I am unable to afford this for the time being! Good luck on the rest of your commissions.”
What NOT to say when an artist quotes your commission higher than you expected:
“WAHHHHHHHHHHH”
“@-@ Holy crap that’s expensive!!”
“Could you maybe give me a tumblr follower discount? :3”
“Your prices are too high!!!!”
“Really?? Just for a sketch? I could draw it for half that!!”
Treat artists like human beings. We gotta eat too. Commissioning an artist is not different from any other contract work. You’re not going to ask your dentist for a discounted root canal or tell your contractor his cabinets are too expensive, don’t ask artists to change their prices because you perceive them as too high. More than likely, an artist taking commissions from the internet are drastically under charging themselves already. Please be respectful and understanding that art is a skill and not a favour.
Bob Ross was paid $0 to make his series. He made a living giving lessons IRL and later selling his own line of paints and brushes.
I apologize for not reblogging him as much but everyone needs this on their dash daily. Seriously everyone needs this on their blog or wherever.
Do they rerun this anymore or no?
Words of wisdom!
Seriously though! If you’re feeling depressed or anxious, these episodes are great! I had a period in my life where I suffered almost daily panic attacks. I could normally tell when one was about to start in the next few minutes and I would start watching Bob Ross right away. This show literally STOPPED me from having panic attacks because I was so focused on his calm voice and words of wisdom.
No, seriously. If you don’t have money to help out an artist financially, the second best thing is to reblog all the things you like. While liking it does tell the artist that “hey I really like this!” It does jack shit because the only ones who will see that are me and you.
Why do you think there are so SO many posts made by people that are literally summed down to “please reblog my artwork I need the notes!”? Because no one reblogs artwork. Unless you’re a ridiculously popular blog with thousands of followers, you’ll only end up getting 1 or no reblogs.
SO HELP OUT ARTISTS AND PLEASE REBLOG OUR ART, BECAUSE WE REALLY NEED THE VIEWS ;V;)/
